The Rogers Varsity Volleyball traveled to St. Michael Albertville and defeated the favored Knights in 5 sets for the Section Quarter-final win (17-25, 27-25, 20-25, 25-18, 15-8). STMA took an early lead by easily winning the first set 17-25, but the Royals bounced back in the second set outlasting the Knights 27-25. Rogers’ serve receive wavered in the third set and STMA took advantage winning the set 20-25. The Knights took a commanding lead in the fourth set, leading 12-6 and appeared to be on their way to a section playoff win. However, the Royals mounted a comeback with aggressive serving and relentless defense to overcome the deficit and outscore STMA 16 to 6 to take the set. After gaining the momentum swing, Rogers did not look back and dominated the Knights at the net blocking their attacks for the last 4 points of the match, to win 15-8. The Royals had 25 total team blocks led by Freshman Kendal Kemp who had 11 for the match and Senior Meghan Ellingson with 6. The tandem blocked the winning point to close out the second set as well as the winning point to close out the match. Rogers team totals for the match included 51 Kills, 43 Digs and 16 Service Aces.
The Royals continue their post season play on Tuesday, October 30 as they travel to Champlin Park to play the 1st seed Rebels for the semi-final Section Tournament match up.
