The Minnesota State High School League Why We Play initiative was put in place to promote Education Based Activities in Minnesota. As part of a larger conversation with coaches and AD’s we went a step farther and challenged our sports leaders (captains) to develop a purpose statement on Why We Play the sports we do. We will highlight a few Rogers High School’s leaders and their purpose statements throughout the school year.
More Information on Why We Play can be found here: https://insideoutinitiative.org/progress/insideout-statewide/minnesota/
Today’s students are: Amanda B. and Meghan E.
Amanda participates in Volleyball and Her Why is:
“I play to not only gain compassion in the sport myself but I want others to be compassionate as well. I have the responsibility as a leader to be a role model and help others enjoy not only the sport but life. I want everyone to make life long friendships with one another because that is what makes life and sports fun and enjoyable.”
Meghan participates in Volleyball and Track & Field. Her Why is:
“I play because I love volleyball. Playing a high school sport builds relationships with not only my teammates but also the community. The friends I have made from sports are relationships I with to have forever.”
